Regional Tourism Committee Seeks $200,000 for Red River Gorge Wayfinding Project

The Red River Gorge Tourism group also known as "Fellowship of the Gorge", representing Lee, Powell, Wolfe, Estill, and Menifee Counties, has completed a USDA Rural Business Development Grant application requesting $200,000 to expand regional wayfinding infrastructure and improve visitor access throughout the Red River Gorge region.

The grant application is being submitted by the Lee County Tourism Commission, which is serving as the fiscal agent on behalf of the coalition.

If awarded, the funding will support additional regional red wayfinding signs while also creating a digital visitor resource featuring downloadable maps and information about local businesses, attractions, lodging, restaurants, and outdoor recreation located along the designated routes.

The project is designed to help visitors more easily navigate the region while encouraging them to explore all five counties and discover locally owned businesses and communities beyond the main travel corridors.

The coalition has received more than 25 letters of support from local governments, tourism organizations, community partners, and businesses throughout the region. Those letters highlight the positive impact the regional wayfinding signs have already had by directing travelers into local communities and increasing visibility for small rural businesses.

This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to strengthening rural economies, improving visitor experiences, and promoting sustainable growth across the Red River Gorge region.
